Otherwise is a clothing brand from Lisbon dedicated to the art of slow, conscious production. One of the founders spent two years in India, where they developed a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and the skills of local artisans. These experiences continue to shape Otherwise's collections today.

The garments are carefully hand-printed, woven, spun, or dyed using centuries-old techniques such as block printing, ikat, shibori, or jamdani. Each piece tells a story, combining cultural heritage with modern design – made to be worn with pride.

Philosophy & Values

Exclusivity

Otherwise works exclusively in limited small series, as a clear statement against mass production. Each piece is cut by hand, and all fabrics and materials are personally selected by the founder. This creates true uniqueness – no two pieces are exactly alike.

Traditional Handicrafts

The fabrics are created in close collaboration with experienced artisans who master traditional techniques and meticulously handcraft each material. This decelerated production process requires time and dedication – on average, it takes about 30 to 60 days to weave enough fabric for just 30 shirts. Otherwise thus stands for honest craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and timeless designs – a brand that consciously reinterprets fashion with respect for people and the environment.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core pillar of Otherwise's brand philosophy. All processes are continuously refined to become even more resource-efficient and environmentally conscious. For the production of its garments, Otherwise exclusively uses natural and organic materials and consistently avoids synthetic fabrics such as polyester, acrylic, or nylon. Fabric scraps from previous collections are carefully stored and reused for jacket linings or bags – thus minimizing waste. Otherwise also pays attention to naturalness in the details: for example, the buttons are made from organic coconut shell.

Transparency

Otherwise fosters open and transparent communication with suppliers and customers. Collaboration with the small, carefully selected team in India is based on fair trade principles – every person involved is valued and fairly compensated.

The brand pursues the concept of an honest price that reflects the work of everyone along the supply chain. For this reason, Otherwise consciously refrains from offering discounts or sales on new collections – because fair fashion has its value, right from the start.
